In 2012 a group of HR professionals met over a cuppa to review appraisal software available. What we found was...
Most software was American and sort of 'adapted' to suit the UK market but the terminology was all wrong
Large HRIS software had bolt on appraisal packages but they were pretty poor
Software was designed by software houses and there purely to 'manage' a process without a real understanding of HR requirements
We then looked at the clients we were supporting with their HR, their size, resource, how they
managed the appraisal process in the business (if at all), the data they needed and whether
introducing appraisals had added any value to the business.
The feedback was pretty negative.
So we decided to do something different...
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE...
Worked with those business to really understand every role in it?
Had a real understanding of what was in their business plan and their vision? Wrote measures for each business and their job roles which reflected the industry they were in? Supported the business through their appraisal process, helping to write KPI's and objectives? If we offered appraisal skills training for managers? If we assisted in the creation of a communication strategy? We were able to help those businesses interpret the information at the end of the appraisal round?

Normally we get around a 45% completion rate with our appraisals, this time using e-ppraise we achieved 95%! The feedback from the team for the first time ever was that the appraisal experience was positive.
